History

1851.

Shortly after the invention of telegraph, the company was founded in the U.S.A. under the name "The New York & Mississippi Valley Printing Telegraph Company".

1856.

The company name changes to "The Western Union Telegraph Company", marking the unification of Eastern and Western coasts telegraph lines into one integrated system. For about a century Western Union serves millions of people and gains great reputation for its telegraph services.

1871.

The company enters the money transfer.

1920.

The company "telegraphs" the first images between England and US, using its private telecomunications submerged wire.

1923.

Introduces teletypes.

1958.

Introduces telex.

1964.

Introduces the intercontinental microwave signals system, replacing the existing wired lines.

1974.

Places the Westar, the first US satellite for domestic communications.

1982.

Becomes the first private company to own 5 satellites in orbit.

1989.

Introduces fast money transfer, outside US borders.

2001.

The company enters the Serbia & Montenegro market, by assigning its representation (agency) to "EKI Transfers".

2002.

Western Union opens 110.000 locations in more than 186 countries and territories in the world.

2004.

Western Union opens 200.000 locations in more than 195 countries and territories in the world. Eki Transfers opens 1.000th location in Serbia & Montenegro.

2008.

Western Union has more than 320,000 locations in more than 200 countries and territories in the world, and more than 1,670 in Serbia and 202 in Montenegro

2010.

Western Union has more than 380.000 locations in more than 200 countries and territories in the world.

2011.

Western Union has more than 437.000 locations in more than 200 countries and territories in the world.

2012.

Western Union has more than 463.000 locations in more than 200 countries and territories in the world.

2014.

Western Union has more than 500.000 locations in more than 200 countries and territories in the world.

Eki Transfers acquired NBS licence and became payment institution in Serbia.

Eki Transfers opened it's first own location in USCE shopping center.

Eki Transfers took ownership of Montenegro Transfers, the first payment institution in Montenegro.
